Webinar on Numerical Cognition in honor of Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann
On September 19, 2020 the Instituto Genus streamed a webinar on “Numerical Cognition”, in which Pekka Räsänen und Vitor Geraldi Haase discussed the issue with four guests from Uruguay (Alejandro Maiche, Vivian Reigosa-Crespo), Spain (Josep Serra-Grabulosa) and Chile (David M. Gómez). The 1.5hrs-long webinar touched on topics related to numerical cognition and was held in honor of Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann. Towards the end of the webinar, Vitor Geraldi Haase applauded Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann and honored their valued cooperation. Thank you!

Book Announcement: Diversity Dimensions in Mathematics and Language Learning. Perspectives on Culture, Education and Multilingualism.
Series: Research on German as a Second Language (Edt. by: Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Erkan Gürsoy and Moritz Herzog)
What is the connection between linguistic and mathematical cognitive developments? This question is currently discussed with passion from various perspectives. This anthology unites knowledge from psychology, neuroscience, mathematical didactics, (psycho)linguistics and research on multilingualism. The interdisciplinary approach offers an encompassing view of the current state of research as presented by national and international researchers. The book consists of three parts. Part one on “models and theories” focuses on theoretical approaches and structures for research and application. This part lays the foundation for the other parts and future research. Part two on “kindergarten” and part three on “primary school” cover empirical findings on the correlations between language and mathematical learning. A special focus lies on multilingualism. The anthology offers a variety of subject-related knowledge for education researchers, education students, psychologists and multilingualism researchers.

Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Pekka Räsänen, and Vitor Haase are publishing a Special Issue on Numerical Cognition in South America at Taylor & Francis Verlag heraus
In December 2019, the educational psychology department at teh University of Duisburg-Essen, supervised by Prof. Dr. Fritz-Stratmann, welcomed Pekka Räsänen from the Niilo Mäki Institute (Jyväskylä, Finland) and Prof. Dr. Vitor Haase from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). The three specialist are editing a special issue on Numerical Cognition in South America at Taylor & Francis, which will be published in the journal Estudios de Psicologia in English and Spanish. The idea for the special issue arose during a cooperation on the International Handbook of Mathematical Learning Difficulties (2019, Springer).
The intense research on numerical cognition and educational psychology in mathematics has direct and indirect implications for everyday teaching at schools. However, the exchange between researchers and practicioners is not always as lively as it could be. The goal of the special issue is, thus, to lay out the dialogue between the education system and research in Latin America. Through this, everyone involved is supposed to profit from the existing experience and take part in the conversation.
